Sounds like a wonderful mini vacation Jules. Keep the stories coming please!
Got to tell you tho - if I had just glanced at you in that photo booth (where have those disappeared to here?) it almost looks like you have found some strange looking street toilet! 🤣🤣
Now that's a fun twist. Photo booth and street toilet. There's money to be made there, Fran! Speaking of photos, Fran, I added a few more to this post. I accidentally shared the post last night instead of saving it as a draft! If you want to see what those grasshopper tacos looked like, it's all here (now) in 3D! Thanks for reading!
Sure if I want to see grasshopper or something or others. My granddaughter is an entomologist and she decided Christmas before last she was going to bring cookies with grasshopper or something other than it without telling anybody she gave us all the cookies. They tasted fine And power of suggestion, but we all felt ill after. I was very annoyed with her for trying this without saying anything but then again kids do some strange things now. But I will look at the rest of the pictures. I might just jump over that one. Hee hee.
That's a funny turn in familial roles! My mother told us she was serving us frog legs (it was tofu) and my great-grandmother famously called her tapioca pudding "fish eyes." Power of suggestion, yes! Where does your granddaughter work? You must tell her I was thrilled to find a cicada exoskeleton yesterday---and a live one a few hours later!
She’s actually gone back to school to get her. I don’t know what you call it after masters. So she’s not working at the moment. I will tell her of your find(s) in the bug department
Grasshoppers… no, but, having been at Grampa’s cottage when I was young in the days when lakes were teaming with fish, turtles and bullfrogs, my dad served frogs legs at least once each summer ( I seem to remember liking those, but I didn’t like the turtle soup). ( Mom was not having anything to do with any of it and Dad grew up eating and cooking what she ( my British Mom, referred to as “awful disgusting creatures” ! A couple of times each week we had fresh caught catfish or bass for dinner. Didnt have to buy much “meat” which was a good thing because that was in the days before Hydro so there were no fridges, just an older fellow, whose name was Jim something or other who brought big blocks of ice around in his boat for all the iceboxes up and diwn the lake. Dinah, his Irish red setter was always with him and I so loved that beautiful dog.
That's fair, Kristi. Insects aren't for everyone! I do love veg tacos---jackfruit, beetroot, sweet potato, charred cauliflower! It's not often that you see grasshoppers on a menu outside of Uganda though!
I dunno, I've seen plenty of travel posts that include bug sandwiches 😂
Y'all are braver than I am. I'm a very visual eater and can't manage a lot of things. I quit eating mayo because I saw it separate in a jar in the hot sun once. 🤮 And eggs...that little half-done abortion inside makes me not be able to eat eggs. It's a weird quirk of mine lol
So, I guess an egg salad sandwich would push you right off the edge? I heave a little when I see Survivor-esque footage of people eating gaggy spoonfuls of peanut butter. I'll eat grasshoppers or termites any day over that. I meant to ask you, Kristi---did you see any Swiss Family Robinson film set acknowledgement when you lived in Jamaica? Can't believe it was filmed there!
No! I’ve never even heard that…ever! But I did visit Blue Lagoon several times…the official Blue Lagoon where the movie was shot. It’s in Portland, Jamaica. Also, the Golden Eye villa where Ian Fleming wrote his James Bond books.
I looked up Blue Lagoon as a refresher (1980!)--totally forgot that it was Brooke Shields! The teens "discover sex, love and loneliness in tropical paradise." I was only six in 1980 so still oblivious to such things. Kim and I visited Piz Gloria of 007 fame in Switzerland. We were shaken, stirred and stiffed on overpriced martinis there!

What an amazing trip! It looks beautiful, I've never been. I'm a little uncertain about the grasshoppers but I'll take your word for it.
More European travel is in my future plans so I'll definitely revisit your trip.

Teehee. We had fish eyes too 🤣
Well this one validated the reason I chose to be a vegetarian 😂
